Course Overview |
Japan is a country rich in religious beliefs and practices, its landscape dotted with temples and shrines, buddhas and kami. But at the most basic level, what is religion? Can we easily separate it from other areas of our personal lives and society: government and politics, spirituality and wellness trends, the natural environment, the Covid pandemic? In this course, we will discuss and debate what religion includes and where we find it (or donft) in Japanese history and in life today. Some of the content on Japanese religions will be familiar if youfve grown up in Japan, but by the end of the course, you will probably look at religion and society in Japan with a very different perspective. |
