Course Overview |
Although some people believe that popular culture should be considered apart from society and politics, the pandemic situation of COVID-19 made us realize that the two can never be considered apart from each other. In this class, I will use cinema made on the Korean Peninsula during the "turbulent period" of colonialism(Imperialism) and the Korean War to examine how films made on the Korean Peninsula were accepted by the people of that time. By examining how Chosen cinema were accepted not only in the Korean Peninsula but also in the "Naichi" of Imperial Japan, we will consider how policies and politics, film production sites, and the intentions of the recipients of films had unintended consequences. This class will consist of a lecture in the first half and student presentations in the second half. |
