Course Overview

The course will be learner centered, with a focus on improving the form and style of the students’ written English. It will include the writing of several (5-6) short essays and final, longer essay. The students will receive feedback from the professor and from each other on the quality of their work. Students will be provided with examples of the various modes, such as narrative, description, etc., in which they will be writing. Vocabulary exercises and assignments will also be given

Suggestion for success (Specific) : The reading of examples of writing in the modes, narrative, description, cause and effect, compare/contrast and others. The writing of short essays (1-2 pages double spaced) in these modes. The goal is to prepare the students for the writing of the final class essay. The in-class reading of and commentary on other student’s work. Vocabulary exercises.
