Course Overview |
Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man is one of the most important American novels of the 20th century. It not only gives an original literary view of race and culture in America, it also makes a statement about modern identity that crosses racial divides, and represents a bridge between modernism and postmodernism. In class, we will look at each of these elements in studying this novel. For background, we will be reading excerpts of works by W.E.B. DuBois and others to set the context. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
