授業の概要 |
この講義は琉球語の類型論的な多様性を概観するとともに、フィールドワークの疑似体験も行うことで琉球語への理解を深めることを目的とする。なお、この講義は英語による講義であり,G30の学生たちも履修する。国際学会などにおける英語による言語学的な議論の練習をしたい人にも履修を勧める。適宜,日本語による議論も許可するので,英語が不得手であっても気にする必要はない。 This course focuses on the Ryukyuan languages, a language family spoken on the Ryukyu archipelago (Amami and Okinawa). This language group is genetically related to (in sister relationship with) Japanese; however, present Ryukyuan is quite distinct from Japanese both in terms of phonology and grammar, a situation which can be compared to the mutual unintelligibility between English and Dutch, for example. This course addresses the following issues regarding the linguistic features of Ryukyuan: (1) Internal diversity: the Ryukyuan languages are diverse both in phonology and grammar, to the point where Northern Ryukyuan and Southern Ryukyuan are mutually unintelligible. We will take a quick look at the phonological and grammatical diversity found in various Ryukyuan languages. (2) Typological characterisation of Ryukyuan in comparison with Japanese and beyond: sound systems, nominal categories (number and case), verbal categories (tense, aspect, and modality) and other features are compared. (3) An experience of linguistic fieldwork: as in most other minority languages, Ryukyuan can only be studied through fieldwork. It is a painful enterprise on the one hand, but an incredibly joyful and stimulating experience on the other. You can experience how to collect raw data and how to use them for what people call "linguistic analysis". The Ryukyuan languages are endangered, i.e. they are about to die out soon, like most other minority languages of the world. This course will also address this issue, from the perspective of linguistics and of sociolinguistics. () | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
