Course Overview In this course, we will focus on the sounds and the sound system of English. We will look at the sounds of English, how they are produced, and how they are classified as individual segments and larger units of organization. We will consider the articulation, reception and transcription of individual sounds in the International Phonetics Alphabet (IPA). We will then take a closer look at the acoustic properties of English sounds and words, noticing how sounds can influence one another. Finally, we will look at common sound changes in English, i.e., the most common phonological processes in English.
Keywords : English, phonetics, IPA, transcription, acoustic analysis, phonology, sound change
