Course Overview

This class introduces Japanese language history, focusing on a fairly detailed outline of the oldest Japanese (Old Japanese), then looking at changes that have taken place since then, and also to a smaller extent at reconstructible changes in pre-OJ. The course will also introduce and make use of the recently published Oxford-NINJAL Corpus of Old Japanese (http://oncoj.ninjal.ac.jp/).
