Additional Information regarding Evaluation Method : You will write, edit, and rewrite two short stories (600-1000 words each). Each short story represents 35% of your grade, and two small presentations (each 15%) represent the remaining 30%.

The grading rubric for the two short stories is as follows:
Clarity and Organization (25%)The story is clear and well-organized – readers can easily follow what happens in the story (though intentional ambiguity in plotline is a valid technique)
Characters (15%) The character(s) in the story are believable, and the reader can empathize with them.
Creativity and Impact (20%) The story “comes alive”, is imaginative, and contains creative elements. The reader is impacted in some way.
Plot (10%) There is tension in the story that moves the story forward. There is resolution at the end, or the story is purposefully without resolution.
Setting (10%) The reader can imagine the time and place where the story takes place.
Mechanics (20%) Grammar, spelling, evidence of earlier drafts and revision process
TOTAL 100% (for each story, which is 35% of your total grade)

Each in-class presentation will be worth 15% or your grade. More information will be given to students at the first class meeting.

Students who do not come to classes will lose points on their final grade. 3 missed classes = minus 10%, 4 missed classes = minus 25%, 5 missed classes = you cannot pass the course. If you miss a class due to illness, please talk to the teacher as soon as possible and bring a doctor's note to the next class, and be prepared to do a makeup assignment.
