Course Overview On this course we shall be reading a selection of the work of the English poet Philip Larkin (1922-1985). We shall read and discuss one or two poems each week. All members of the class will be expected to have read the poem/s, and to contribute to class discussion. We shall also discuss the literary, biographical, historical and political context of the poems, reading poetry that influenced Larkin, as well as poetry that Larkin influenced. By the end of this course, students will have a thorough knowledge of twentieth-century British poetry.

Notes Active participation is required for this class. Students will be expected to prepare for classes, which will involve background reading in addition to reading the primary texts.
