Course Overview The scientific discipline of Archaeology is commonly defined thus: the study of human past through the investigation of the traces of human thoughts and deeds and the environments in which they took place. Considering that human being is a social being, all possible archaeological approaches are to study human society and human sociality. This course defines an archaeology that consciously incorporates that recognition to its theoretical and methodological frameworking as 'Social Archaeology, and attempts to construct a theoretical and methodological framework suitable for the purpose of explaining and understanding the generation, maintenance and transformation of past societies and sociality.
