Course Overview This class will introduce the relationship between islands environment and human beings, mainly focusing on Homo sapiens. While we have a long history, when did they begin to colonize islands? What is the significance of studying the relationship between humans and islands in the prehistoric times? While the class will introduce islands of the Mediterranean and Oceania, it will focus more on the Amami and Okinawa archipelagos. While these islands are located in the periphery of the mainland of Japan, they have very important world level prehistoric data.
