| Course Overview |
In this seminar, we will study the famous twentieth-century author, James Joyce. We will do so by reading one novel: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. This book was published in 1916, so this year is the centenary: the perfect time to read this great novel. We will read the first half of the novel in the spring semester and the second half in the autumn semester (about 10 pages a week). All students are welcome, especially those interested in: modernism; bildungsroman; history of the novel; postcolonialism; and Irish writing. この演習では、２０世紀の作家の中でも有名なジェイムズジョイスについて学びます。「若い芸術家の肖像」を読む予定です。この本は１９１６年に刊行され、今年が刊行されて１００年の節目となりますので、この本を知るもっとも良い機会です。前期の演習ではこの小説の半ページを読み、後期ではその残りを読みます（毎週１０ページほど）すべての学生が対象ですが、モダニズム、教養小説、小説の歴史やポストコロニアル理論、アイルランド文学に興味のある学生には特に受講してもらいたいと思います。 |
