Course Overview The Irish poet and dramatist W.B. Yeats (1865-1939), who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923, was deeply influenced by Japan, especially Noh theatre (能楽) and Zen Buddhist philosophy (禅仏教の哲学). In this seminar, we will read a selection of Yeats’s work, including poetry, prose, and drama. We will also discuss the connections between Japan, Ireland, and Britain during the period, 1865-1939.
アイルランドの詩人であり劇作家のイエーツは1923年の文学賞に輝き、日本の能楽や禅仏教の哲学にとても深く影響を受けました。この演習では、イエーツの詩文、散文、劇を含む作品を読みます。また、1865年から1939年にかけての日本、アイルランド、英国の関係性についても話していきましょう。
