Course Overview |
We address the following truly fundamental question: What is sociology? The goal of this course is that students answer this apparently exorbitant question in their own language, not in abstract terms, but with specific examples. To achieve this goal, we take a paradoxical approach in discussing "what is NOT sociology" instead. Sociology majors need to pay particular attention to "sociological analysis." Sociological analysis is distinct from common-sense day-to-day inference in two respects: 1. logic, not individual's subjective judgement, derives the conclusion; and 2. a proper methodology is in use. |
