Course Overview Learning the sound system of a language is the basis on which more abstract langguage acuqisition is built. It is also an important connection with which human and non-human language may be examined. The goal of this course is to learn how infants learn the phological system of their ambient language in a comprehensive way. Lectures will cover not only the basic background in linguistics, including phonetics and phonology, brain development, cognitive development, as well as social development, but combine them with the cutting-edge research in this field. Topics will cover the input for language acquisition, behavioral studies and imaging studies on Japanese infants' phonological development
