Course Overview To examine the beginning of Western philosophy, this course examines "Early Greek Philosophy" (also called "Presocratic Philosophy"), which provided various basic concepts, problems and frameworks of thought. We first consider why philosophy is said to have started in ancient Greece, and then examine several candidates for the "first philosopher". Our aim is also to get accustomed to using "fragments" of this period.
