Course Overview This course is the first of a two-course series that serves as an introduction to the functional approach to linguistics. Functional Linguistics I will cover the theory of functionalism and how this approach relates to generative approaches and to cognitive linguistics. We will also discuss functional approaches to phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
