Course Overview This course will provide discussions on fundamental aspects of phonology, genearalising phonological phenomena in terms of language universals. After completing this course, students will be able to explain (i) what speakers know about the sound system of their native language,(ii) some of the rules controlling sound patterns in different languages, and (iii) where phonological knowledge belongs in a general theory of grammar.
