Course Overview Post-war poetry. The class aims to give a panorama of the French speaking poetry post 1945. This period is less known by students, even if the period from post-war to nowadays gathers rich experiences and diversity. We will study poems in which the renewal of forms is perceptible. Allowing us to question the meaning and the power of language, some writers have given different perspectives to the post-war poetry. The following generations will also be studied, through the most recent poetical creations.

This work is one of the most famous classics in Japan, but discussions about its characteristics and appeal are currently stagnant. Course Overview This course aims to provide an overview of Samuel Taylor Coleridge [1772-1834], a major English Romantic poet ‘of pure imagination’ and remarkable forerunner of modern literary criticism. After an overall introduction, we will study his life briefly, then consider his achievements as a poet by closely reading his major poems divided into four stages: 1 Sublime poems, 2 Conversation poems, 3 Supernatural poems, and 4 Later poems, and finally conclude this lecture by touching on his relationship of influence with his contemporary Romantic poets as well as with various earlier and later writers. Attention will be paid to the sociopolitical situations of that age, among others, the French Revolution, which the poet expected so much from at first and got disillusioned with later, and the Industrial Revolution. This course will be centred on lecture but participants will be expected to read the poems dealt with on their own beforehand and express their interpretations and opinions of them in class.
