Course Overview This course provides students with a survey of Jacques Derrida’s early works in 1960s, mainly through reading “Speech and Phenomena”, focusing especially on his notion of différance and deconstruction.
If time allows, after obtaining fundamental knowledge of Derrida’s thoughts, we will investigate Derrida's progressivism which lies behind his whole works, revealing peculiar relationships between modern western philosophy (including his own) and the development of science and technology.
