Course Overview Generative Grammar is a linguistic theory which was proposed by N. Chomsky in the midst of 20th century. The research under this theory aims to investigate the universal aspect of language, assuming that every human being genetically has linguistic competence. Since obviously every language has a different set of lexical items and utilizes various strategies in expressing things, it is not easy to witness the reflections of the universal linguistic competence. The purpose of this course is for Japanese native speakers to carefully experience the construction of Japanese sentences, and eventually see the universal aspect of Japanese language.
