Course Overview As a sub-discipline of humanities, linguistics seeks to uncover human nature by focusing on language. It tries to answer the fundamental question of what constitute grammar as it is internalized in all human beings and how it is related to the grammar of each individual language. It also explores the relationship between language and its speakers who use it. These questions must be addressed by dealing with empirical data from diverse languages upon which linguistic theories are based. This class examines some of such fundamental questions and different approaches of linguistics whereby students will be able to have a basic understanding of linguistics and have a further interest in this field of study.
