Course Overview In Europe, from the Renaissance to the Eighteenth century, Painting and Poetry were regarded as sister arts, and paintings are appreciated from this point of view.
This course aims to familiarize students with peculiarities of the Renaissance Italian art criticism, especially with its basic idea of the intimate relation between painting and poetry. For this purpose we use as our guide "Painting and Experience in Fifteenth Century Italy" written by M. Baxandall and examine some concrete cases of this view.
