Course Overview This course concerns the way we study archaeological evidence as the remaining material media and consequences of past social practices. By drawing upon the premise that the most basic and minimum phenomenal unit of social phenomena is human interaction/communication, the course investigates how we can recognize the traces of the operation of past communication systems. and how we can grasp the way they changed and how society was transformed . We will also investigate how the way we are situated in contemporary society and the way we live in it as social beings affect our approaches to the past. The ultimate goal of the course, by synthesizing the outcomes of those endeavors, is to construct the framework of a new 'Social Archaeology'.
