Course Overview In this course, we will focus on the *phonology* of English - that is, how the sounds of English are organized as a cohesive part of the grammar of English. We will review the sounds of English, how they are classified as individual segments and larger units of organization, and the types of sound changes that not only occur in English, but in human languages in general. We will consider the articulation, reception and transcription of individual sounds in the International Phonetics Alphabet (IPA). We will also look at morphophonemic changes (sound changes across morphemes) seen in English and elsewhere.
