| Course Overview |
This lecture is designed to introduce some concrete examples of historical studies on environmental adaptation in North East Asia and Japan-Russia joint researches teacher has been conducting. These will be situated within current archaeological research activities in the Circum Japan Sea Area, especially in the northern part, which primarily includes the Russian Far East and the Japanese archipelago. The knowledge obtained will form the basis of our understanding of the diversity of prehistoric ethnic groups and archaeological cultures in North East Asia. We are foremost concerned with the emergence period of pottery through the Middle Ages. As it is important to correctly understand the political and social conditions of the partner country when promoting international academic exchange, modern history should be touched on where appropriate. We will examine how Japanese researchers and researchers from countries with different social backgrounds, historical views, and research methodologies sustain scholarly collaboration and conduct research.
