Course Overview Persian is currently an official language in Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan, and has approximately 110 million speakers. In the pre-modern period, this language was used not only as spoken languege, but for administrative documents and literary works in Iran, Central Asia, and India under Muslim rule. For this reason, it is indispensable to acquire the Persian language to study the history of these regions. The purpose of this course is to learn elementary Persian grammar and develop the ability to read Persian for researching history in the Persianate world.
