Žö‹Æ‚ÌŠT—v The course investigates the history and structure of English words. Students will learn how historical events have affected the vocabulary of English. Through practical exercises, students will gain a deeper understanding of the structure of English words (i.e. morphology). They will also learn how to analyse the component parts of words borrowed into English from Greek and Latin, which form a significant part of the English lexicon. We will study how changes in English pronunciation have affected English words. We will also consider how the meanings of some words have changed over time.
ŠwK–Ú•W Students will attain a deeper understanding of the history and structure of English words.
Žö‹Æ‚Ìi‚ß•û We will work through the topics and material in the textbook. Further exercises will be provided by the instructor.
