Course Overview Persian language is currently an official language in Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. In the pre-modern period, the Persianate world spread beyond Iran, over Ottoman lands, Central Asia and South Asia, and this language was used for administrative documents and literary works there. For this reason, it is indispensable to acquire the Persian language to study the history of these regions. The purpose of this course is to learn elementary Persian grammar and develop the ability to read Persian for researching history in the Persianate world.
