Course Overview This class explores the art and visual culture of Japanfs gearly modern age,h that is the Edo period. It will be based on the concept of an Early Modern Globalization and explore how Edo period Japan (1) constituted a characteristic, Asian brand of Early Modernity; (2) participated in international developments and exchanges; and (3) laid foundations for the countryfs rapid modernization during the Meiji to Showa periods.
