Course Overview This lecture will focus mainly on the Turkic peoples (Uzbeks, Tatars, Uighurs, etc.) of Central Eurasia (Central Asia and the surrounding regions) from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. Through educational reforms, revolutions and the establishment of the Soviet Union, they have experienced major political and social changes. Many people have fled the region as refugees and exiles, and communities have been established in Japan. I would like to deepen understanding of the various histories that do not fit within the framework of the present Central Asian countries, and the relationship between modern Japan and the Turkic peoples.
