Course Overview |
*Creative Writing: Poetry* Overview The class will give students a chance to work on their English reading, writing, and self-expression skills. They will read and write poetry in English, and share what they have written in class. No special background is required – complete beginners are welcome. Class time will be used to read, discuss, and share English poetry. We will do some in-class writing as well. Students will keep a poetry journal, writing in it for 10 minutes a day, every day. Goals 1) To help students learn to appreciate poetry in English 2) To help students learn to write poetry in English 3) To develop creative use of English in a relaxed, fun setting 4) To give students a chance to express their thoughts and feelings in writing. 5) To use English poetry to study English phonology, vocabulary, and grammar. 6) To give students a chance to keep a journal, to help improve both their written English and their self-expression abilities, with the hope that it becomes a habit that they keep after the course is finished. 7) To give students a chance to practice presenting their artistic creations to small groups of peers in a supportive setting 8) To practice analyzing and critiquing poetry |
