Course Overview On this course we shall be reading a selection of the work of the Northern Irish poet Seamus Heaney (1939-2013). We shall read and discuss one or two poems each week. All members of the class will be expected to have read the poem/s, and to contribute to class discussion. We shall also discuss the literary, biographical, historical and political context of the poems. By the end of this course, students will have a thorough knowledge of a key figure in twentieth-century poetry.
