Course Overview This course aims to provide students with a multifaceted understanding of the development of history of Spanish art from the late 16th to the 17th century. The objective of this course is to understand the development of Spanish art from the late 16th to the 17th century from various perspectives. The course will basically focus on paintings, but will also touch on topics such as the relationship between art and the church (Counter-Reformation), patronage, drawing practice, the relationship between painting and sculpture, as well as re-evaluation of Spanish art in the 19th century. The course will be offered in the form of an intensive lecture, which is comprised of a visit on June 3 to the exhibition "Images of Spain: Images of Spain Transmitted through Prints" at the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art and lectures at the Ito Campus from August 24 to 27.
