Course Overview |
This seminar aims to introduce first-year IDOC students to the theoretical and practical foundations of historical research. Any attempt at being comprehensive is of course futile, but we will pay attention to some of the diverse approaches that have shaped historical work inside and outside Japan, both in premodern and modern times. We will consider what makes someone a 'historian' as well as how and why historians investigate, interpret, and write about the past.
