Course Overview

This is the co-taught seminar with Prof.Anton Schweizer: "Art and Empire: Mobilizing Objects in East Asia."
In this seminar we will explore the manifestation of “empires” in Japanese and East Asian art. We will discuss concepts and artifacts (paintings, objects, works of architecture) and spatial ensembles. We will work diachronically with foci in the medieval, early modern, and modern periods.
